Photodissociation Dynamics of Formic Acid at 206 nm
نویسندگان
چکیده
The photodissociation dynamics of formic acid (HCOOH) at 206 nm have been investigated from rotationally resolved laser induced fluorescence spectra of OH (Π) fragments produced exclusively in the ground state. From the spectra, the rotational energy of the fragments was measured to be 820 ± 50 cm−1. The translational energy released in the products, which is 87% of the total available energy of the system, was also measured from analyses of the Doppler profiles. Joining these data with quantum chemical molecular orbital calculations, we have concluded that the dissociation should take place along the S1 surface with an exit channel barrier and also that the energy partitioning is determined at the exit channel.

Destruction of formic acid by soft X-rays in star-forming regions
Formic acid is much more abundant in the solid state, both in interstellar ices and cometary ices, than in the interstellar gas (ice/gas ∼ 104) and this point remains a puzzle. The goal of this work is to experimentally study ionization and photodissociation processes of HCOOH (formic acid), a glycine precursor molecule. The measurements were taken at the Brazilian Synchrotron Light Laboratory ...
متن کاملUV photodissociation spectroscopy of oxidized undecylenic acid films.
Oxidation of thin multilayered films of undecylenic (10-undecenoic) acid by gaseous ozone was investigated using a combination of spectroscopic and mass spectrometric techniques. The UV absorption spectrum of the oxidized undecylenic acid film is significantly red-shifted compared to that of the initial film. Photolysis of the oxidized film in the tropospheric actinic region (lambda > 295 nm) r...
متن کاملInfrared-induced conformational interconversion in carboxylic acids isolated in low-temperature rare-gas matrices
An overview of our recent studies dealing with infrared-induced conformational interconversion of carboxylic acids isolated in rare-gas matrices is presented. Extensive rotational photoisomerization studies have been performed on formic acid, which is the simplest organic acid enabling this kind of processes. Formic acid has two conformers and interconversion between them can be induced by vibr...
متن کاملFrom roaming atoms to hopping surfaces: mapping out global reaction routes in photochemistry.
The photodissociation of small molecules occurs upon irradiation by ultraviolet or visible light, and it is a very important chemical process in Earth's atmosphere, in the atmospheres of other planets, and in interstellar media. Photodissociation is an important method used to thoroughly investigate the fundamental issues of chemical reactivity. Photodissociation involves molecules and reaction...
متن کاملPhotochemical aging of secondary organic aerosol particles generated from the oxidation of d-limonene.
Secondary organic aerosol (SOA) particles are generated by reacting d-limonene vapor and ozone in a Teflon reaction chamber. The reaction is carried out in either dry or humid air in darkness. The resulting SOA particles are collected on glass fiber filters, and their photochemical properties are probed using a combination of UV photodissociation action spectroscopy and absorption spectroscopy ...
